Diwali Laxmi Pujan falls on Sunday, 8 November 2026, and both NSE and BSE have confirmed that a special Muhurat Trading session will be held that day. The exact session timings have not been announced yet. The exchanges say they will notify them later through a circular. Here is what is confirmed, what is still pending, and which days the stock market is closed in November 2026.
Diwali 2026 Muhurat Trading: what is confirmed
| Item | Status (NSE / BSE) |
| Muhurat Trading date | Sunday, 8 November 2026 (Diwali Laxmi Pujan) |
| Session timing | Not yet announced. To be notified by NSE and BSE through a circular |
| Regular market holiday | Tuesday, 10 November 2026 (Diwali-Balipratipada) |
| Regular market holiday | Tuesday, 24 November 2026 (Prakash Gurpurb Sri Guru Nanak Dev) |
Because 8 November is a Sunday, the exchanges are not closed on a weekday for Laxmi Pujan this year. Trading on the equity market runs only in the special evening or afternoon window the exchanges notify, so do not rely on any time you see before the circular comes out.
Why some websites show different dates and times
Several third-party holiday calendars were published long before the exchanges finalised their lists. Some of them show the Balipratipada holiday on 9 November and quote an approximate Muhurat window of 6:00 PM to 7:15 PM. NSE’s official holiday list shows the holiday on 10 November, and BSE’s list, as reproduced by Kotak Neo, agrees. Treat any session time as an estimate until the circular is out.
What is Muhurat Trading?
Muhurat Trading is a short, special trading session held on the evening of Diwali Laxmi Pujan. Many traders and families see it as a symbolic start to the new Samvat year, which is why the session is held even when the day is otherwise a market holiday. It is usually about an hour long. This article only explains the calendar. It is general information and not investment advice.
Stock market holidays after 20 October 2026
- 10 November (Tuesday): Diwali-Balipratipada
- 24 November (Tuesday): Guru Nanak Jayanti
- 25 December (Friday): Christmas
Saturdays and Sundays are regular off days. Muhurat Trading on 8 November is the one exception among the weekend days.
Banks and markets follow different holiday lists
Bank holidays are decided by RBI and differ by city, while the exchanges publish a single list for the market. For example, banks in several cities are closed on 9, 10 or 11 November, depending on the city. See our November 2026 bank holidays list for the city-wise RBI dates, and our Diwali guide for the festival calendar.
