As of October 2026, the NEET UG 2027 syllabus has not been separately released. The National Medical Commission (NMC) publishes the syllabus, and the last officially announced change is that NEET UG will be a computer-based test (CBT) from 2027. Until a new notice appears on nmc.org.in, the NCERT-based Physics, Chemistry and Biology syllabus of recent years is the safe base for preparation.

What has actually been announced
The one firm change is the mode. The Union Government announced on 15 May 2026 that NEET UG will move from pen-and-paper to a computer-based test from 2027. Reports link this decision to the NEET UG 2026 paper leak case, which is still being heard in court. A further CBI chargesheet naming a 14th accused was reported in October, with the next hearing on 22 October. Separately, PTI reported in September that NTA asked AICTE for data on government colleges that could host CBT centres.
Beyond that, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has not published a CBT-specific pattern, shift timings or exam cities. Any article that gives a fixed 2027 exam date or a new chapter list should be treated as a guess until NTA or NMC confirms it.
NEET syllabus: what it covers
NEET UG tests three subjects: Physics, Chemistry and Biology (Botany and Zoology). The questions come from Class 11 and Class 12 topics, and the syllabus follows the NCERT books closely. Chemistry covers physical, inorganic and organic parts; Biology is the biggest section.
Physics
Mechanics, properties of matter, thermodynamics, oscillations and waves, electrostatics, current electricity, magnetism, optics, modern physics and semiconductor basics. Class 11 and 12 topics carry roughly equal weight.
Chemistry
Physical chemistry (mole concept, thermodynamics, equilibrium, electrochemistry, kinetics), inorganic chemistry (periodic table, chemical bonding, p-, d- and f-block, coordination compounds) and organic chemistry (basic principles, hydrocarbons, functional groups, biomolecules).
Biology
Diversity of life, cell structure and function, plant and human physiology, genetics and evolution, reproduction, ecology, biotechnology and human health. Botany and Zoology are tested together.
Exam pattern: what we can say safely
The pattern below is the one used in recent paper-based years. It is not an NTA announcement for 2027. NTA must confirm whether the CBT keeps the same structure.
| Feature | Recent pattern (not yet confirmed for 2027) |
|---|---|
| Subjects | Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Botany + Zoology) |
| Questions | 180 compulsory MCQs in the latest papers (45 + 45 + 90) |
| Marks | 720 in total |
| Marking | +4 for a correct answer, -1 for a wrong answer |
| Duration | 3 hours |
| Language | English, Hindi and several regional languages |
Some websites report that the NMC has cut the syllabus from 97 to 79 chapters. We could not find this on an official notice, and other reports say NMC has announced no change for 2027. Treat the 79-chapter claim as unverified.
What a CBT could change
Reports, which are not official, say the exam may run over several days in multiple shifts, with scores normalised across shifts. NTA has not explained how normalisation would work. Students should be ready for on-screen reading and mouse-based answering, so mock tests on a computer are a good habit now.
How to prepare while waiting
- Finish NCERT Class 11 and 12 Biology line by line. Most Biology questions are direct from NCERT.
- Practise Physics and Chemistry numericals from the full syllabus.
- Take timed full-length mocks on a computer.
- Check neet.nta.nic.in and nmc.org.in every few weeks. Ignore social media rumours.
The information bulletin is normally the document that fixes dates, eligibility and pattern. Based on past years, it has appeared several months before the exam, but NTA has not confirmed a date for 2027.
How to read NEET news safely
Every year, coaching sites and YouTube channels publish “expected” syllabus lists and dates long before the board does. A simple test helps: does the article link to a notice on neet.nta.nic.in or nmc.org.in? If not, treat it as opinion. Official sources are the NTA information bulletin, NTA press releases and the NMC syllabus document.
Also remember that eligibility, such as minimum marks for admission and age rules, is fixed in the information bulletin and in NMC regulations. We could not find an official statement about any attempt limit for 2027, so ignore claims about it for now.
A simple study plan until the notice arrives
- Class 12 students: complete first revision of Class 11 and 12 chapters by December, then start weekly mock tests.
- Droppers: fix weak chapters first, and track mistakes in a notebook.
- Everyone: read the NCERT diagrams and tables in Biology, since many questions are fact-based.
Whatever the final pattern is, strong NCERT basics and regular practice will help you under both paper and computer modes.
Conclusion
For now, the official position is simple: NEET UG 2027 will be computer-based, the syllabus remains the NMC syllabus, and the pattern and date are still awaited. Keep preparing from NCERT and verify every update on the NTA and NMC websites.
