Best Schools in Chandigarh (2026 Guide)

Chandigarh is a planned city, and its schools are planned around its sectors. Most well-known schools sit inside a sector or two of each other, which makes it easy to compare them on distance, board and campus. This guide covers schools inside the Union Territory of Chandigarh only. We have not included Mohali or Panchkula, even though many tricity families consider them together.

This is a shortlist, not a ranking. We started from the official CBSE affiliation directory (SARAS), checked every school against its own website, and kept the ones we could confirm. Eight schools are included for 2026, in no order of merit. Where a detail could not be confirmed on an official page, we say so and point you to the school’s own site.

Schools at a glance

Selected from schools confirmed in the CBSE directory and on the school’s own website. Listed in no particular order. “See site” means we could not confirm the detail on an official page. We did not search the ICSE (CISCE) list for this page.

School-by-school notes

D.R.A. Bhavan Vidyalaya

Bhavan Vidyalaya is run by the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Chandigarh Kendra. Its own website lists the same CBSE affiliation number as the CBSE directory, where it is shown at senior secondary level. The school sits on Madhya Marg in Sector 27-B, and the contact page lists a phone number and school email for enquiries.

Admission note: Use the Admissions section of the official site. Seat availability varies by class, so ask the school office directly.

Delhi Public School, Chandigarh

Delhi Public School is in Sector 40-C and is listed in the CBSE directory at senior secondary level. The school’s website describes a focus on holistic development since 2003 and highlights a sports complex among its facilities.

Admission note: The website carries an admissions section; check the dates for your child’s class there before visiting.

St. John’s High School

St. John’s High School describes itself as an all-boys, English-medium, unaided Catholic minority institution. It is in Sector 26 and appears in the CBSE directory at senior secondary level. The school site has a School Information page and a mobile app for parents.

Admission note: Because it is a boys’ school, check on the school site whether admission rules differ for the senior classes. One of its updates mentioned Class 11 admissions with forms from the school office.

Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School

The school’s site says it was established in 1968, is an unaided Christian minority educational institution, and is run by the Seraphina Educational Society, whose stated aim is the education of young people, especially poor and abandoned children. It is listed in the CBSE directory at senior secondary level and its website publishes CBSE and term datesheets.

Admission note: Check the official site for current admission notices and the age criteria for each class.

Carmel Convent School

Carmel Convent School says it was established in 1959 and describes itself as a leader in girls’ education. It is listed in the CBSE directory at senior secondary level. A school history page tells the story of its founding by a Carmelite community.

Admission note: It is a girls’ school, so it will not suit every family. Use the official site for admission rules and dates.

Vivek High School

Vivek High School is in Sector 38-B and is listed in the CBSE directory at senior secondary level. Its website has admissions, contact and policy pages, and lists several phone numbers and an email for enquiries.

Admission note: Start from the Admissions page of the school’s site and ask about the registration schedule for your class.

Mount Carmel School

The school describes itself as a senior secondary school run by the Mount Carmel Educational Society, Chandigarh, a group of Christian teachers dedicated to moral, intellectual, spiritual and social development. The CBSE directory lists it at senior secondary level in Sector 47-B.

Admission note: Check the official site for admission notices. Do not confuse it with other schools that use similar names in the tricity.

Chandigarh Baptist School

The school’s About page says it was founded in 1986 by the North West India Baptist Association, first as a pre-school, and that it is now a co-educational senior secondary private school. Its site states CBSE affiliation, and the CBSE directory lists it at senior secondary level in Sector 45-D.

Admission note: The website covers admissions from the pre-primary years onward; confirm the current schedule with the school office.

How to choose a school

  • Board fit: All eight schools here are CBSE. If you want an ICSE school, the CISCE locator at locate.cisce.org is the place to check, and we have not covered it on this page.
  • Boys, girls or co-ed: St. John’s is an all-boys school and Carmel Convent is a girls’ school, while Chandigarh Baptist is co-educational. Check each school’s intake before applying.
  • Sector and commute: Chandigarh’s sectors make distances short, but school-time traffic around Sectors 26, 27 and 40 can be heavy. Do a trial run.
  • Minority institutions: Some of these are Christian minority institutions and have their own admission policies. Read them on the official site.
  • Campus visit: See classrooms, labs, grounds and sports facilities, and talk to parents of current students.

Admission process basics

Admission schedules in Chandigarh differ by school and class, and several schools announce registration only on their own websites or notice boards. Check each school’s admission page directly, and do not rely on third-party lists for dates.

Typically you will need the child’s birth certificate, address proof, photographs and, for higher classes, previous school records. Some schools hold interactions or tests, and some have rules for siblings, alumni or minority status. Ask what applies.
