The LIC Golden Jubilee Scholarship is a scheme run by the Life Insurance Corporation of India for students from families with an annual income up to Rs 4.5 lakh. It pays Rs 15,000 to Rs 50,000 a year depending on the course. Applications are online only on licindia.in, and the 2026 window closed on 30 September 2026.
What is the LIC Golden Jubilee Scholarship?
The scheme carries the Golden Jubilee name, and LIC runs it every year through its Divisional offices. Each year LIC invites applications from students who did well in Class 10 or Class 12 and come from modest backgrounds. The scheme has a General category for students entering higher education after Class 12, and a Special category for students entering Class 11/12 or a diploma/ITI after Class 10. Boys and girls have reserved slots in both.

How to apply
- Go to licindia.in by typing the address in your browser and open the Golden Jubilee Scholarship link on the home page.
- Read the notice and the separate “Instructions to candidates for online submission”.
- Fill in the online form with a valid email address and phone number. Your application is routed to an LIC Division based on your PIN code.
- Upload the documents and submit. An acknowledgement email is sent to you.
- Watch your email for communication from the Division office.
Documents
- Income certificate from a state revenue authority such as the Tehsildar or District Magistrate, showing both parents’ gross annual income for the preceding financial year
- Class 12 or Class 10 marksheet
- Bank details with IFSC code and a cancelled cheque showing your name
- PAN and Aadhaar number, with permission for LIC to use the data
- Exit documents such as a transfer certificate if you change institutions later
Division officials may physically verify marks and income, and copies attested by any LIC branch in-charge are accepted.
Selection process
Candidates are ranked on their Class 12 or Class 10 percentage. Ties are broken first by lower family income and then by a financial assessment by LIC officials. Each of LIC’s 112 Divisions selects 120 students: 80 General (40 boys, 40 girls) and 40 Special (20 boys, 20 girls). Generally one scholarship is given per family. Selected candidates are told by email.
Payment and renewal
The first instalment is released on selection (1 September 2026 in the notice) and the second on 1 February 2027, claimed with first-semester results or an attendance certificate.
| Group | Marks needed to renew |
|---|---|
| General: medicine or engineering | At least 55% or equivalent SGPA/CGPA in the previous exam |
| General: other courses | At least 50% |
| Special | At least 50% in the first yearly exam |
You must also pass all subjects, attend regularly, and not rely on grace marks or clearing a failed paper later. Changing institution requires informing the Division office.
A worked example
Suppose a student from Kolkata scored 72% in Class 12 and took admission in a B.Sc. course in 2026-27. Her father earns Rs 3.8 lakh a year. She fits the General category for other graduation courses and would be considered for Rs 20,000 a year. She would compete only with applicants from her LIC Division, ranked by percentage, which is why a higher Class 12 score matters. If another applicant had the same marks, the one with lower family income would be placed ahead.
A student who scored 58%, or whose family income is Rs 5 lakh, would not meet the stated conditions. A student who passed Class 10 with 65% and joined a polytechnic diploma would look at the Special category instead. Because your Division is decided by PIN code, enter your address carefully, and keep your phone and email active, since the Division contacts you directly.
Last date
The LIC notice for 2026-27 gave 30 September 2026, so this cycle has closed as of October 2026. LIC normally opens a new round each year, so check licindia.in around the same time next year. Some pages for the previous cycle showed conflicting dates, which is a good reason to rely on LIC itself.
Beware of fake scholarship pages
The notice we read mentions no application fee. Apply only through licindia.in. Ignore messages that ask for a fee, an OTP or bank login details, and be careful with lookalike websites and social media links.
What we could not verify
- The “Instructions to candidates” document and the full application checklist were not available to us.
- One third-party page for 2025 mentioned a Rs 4 lakh income limit for female sole earners; the LIC 2026 notice we read does not mention it, so confirm before relying on it.
- Whether LIC extended the 2026 deadline.
Conclusion
The LIC Golden Jubilee Scholarship is a real and useful scheme for students with 60% and above and family income up to Rs 4.5 lakh. Keep your income certificate and marksheet ready, and watch licindia.in for the next round.
