Best Schools in Pune

Last checked: 19 Oct 2026. This is a short, hand-picked list of eight well-established Pune schools, selected from a much larger pool. It is not a ranking, and the order does not reflect merit. We listed them by the year each school says it was founded, and schools that do not state a clear year on the pages we read come last.

For every school below we compared two things: the affiliation shown in the relevant board’s own public register (the CISCE school locator for ICSE/ISC schools and the CBSE SARAS affiliated-schools directory for CBSE schools), and what the school says about itself on its official website. Where we could not confirm something, we say “see site” instead of guessing. Fees, seat availability and admission rules change every year, so please confirm them directly with each school.

Board coverage. This list covers ICSE/ISC and CBSE schools only. Pune also has Maharashtra State Board and IB schools, but we could not verify any of them against two sources in this round, so none are listed here. St. Mary’s School also mentions an IB Diploma section on its website; we have not cross-checked that with the IB Organization.

The 8 schools at a glance

1. The Bishop’s School (Camp)

The school’s own history page dates its foundation to 19 April 1864, when a school was set up in Poona for the children of warrant and non-commissioned officers of the Army. It describes itself today as a minority-run Anglo-Indian school. The CISCE locator lists The Bishop’s School (Camp, PIN 411 001) as a boys’ day and residential school offering ICSE and ISC. The same society has other campuses, and the locator lists The Bishop’s Co-Ed School separately, so check which campus you mean. Official website.

2. St. Mary’s School (Camp)

The school’s website gives 1866 as its founding year and describes it as an Anglo-Indian, unaided minority institution. The CISCE locator lists it as a co-ed day school in Camp (PIN 411 001) offering ICSE and ISC. The site also shows a junior college section and an IB Diploma section; we have not cross-checked the IB claim. Official website.

3. Hutchings High School & Junior College (Camp (Phayre Road))

The history page traces the school to 1879, when a Methodist school began with 49 children in a rented house; it took its present name in 1946. The site states CISCE affiliation and classes from pre-nursery to Class 12. The CISCE locator lists it as a co-ed day school with ICSE and ISC at PIN 411 040. Official website.

4. Delhi Public School Pune (Mohammadwadi (Nyati County))

The school says it was established in 2003 by the Takshila Educational Society in collaboration with the Delhi Public School Society, and that it is CBSE-affiliated from Pre-Nursery to Class 12. The CBSE SARAS directory lists it at senior secondary level (affiliation no. 1130066) at Nyati County, Mohammadwadi. Official website.

5. Dhruv Global School (Nande campus) (Nande, Mulshi (near Symbiosis Lavale Road))

The school group says it was established in 2005, starting in Sangamner, and that it operates under the CBSE board. The CBSE SARAS directory lists the Nande campus at senior secondary level (affiliation no. 1130936). The group also lists an Undri campus; we only checked the Nande campus. Official website.

6. Vidya Valley School (Sus)

The school’s history page describes a start in a small bungalow in Aundh and a later move to a campus in Sus, and says the school became CISCE-affiliated. Its pages give slightly different start years, so we do not quote one. The CISCE locator lists it as a co-ed day school at PIN 411 021 with ICSE and ISC. Official website.

7. The Lexicon International School, Wagholi (Wagholi)

The Lexicon Schools describe themselves as CBSE schools, and the group’s About page says the group was founded in 2006. Other pages on the group’s sites give a different start year for the Wagholi school, so we do not quote a school-specific year. The CBSE SARAS directory lists The Lexicon International School at Lexicon Estate, Wagholi at senior secondary level (affiliation no. 1130282). The group runs other Pune campuses that we did not check. Official website.

8. Vidya Pratishthan’s Magarpatta City Public School (Magarpatta, Hadapsar)

The school presents itself as an ICSE school in Magarpatta City, Hadapsar. It is run by Vidya Pratishthan, which says on its history page that the trust was established on 16 October 1972; the school’s own founding year is not clearly stated there. The CISCE locator lists it as a co-ed school at PIN 411 028 with ICSE only (no ISC). Official website.

How to shortlist for your child

  • Start with the board your family prefers, then check that the school offers it for the classes you need.
  • Several of these names have more than one campus in Pune. Confirm which campus and which affiliation number applies to the class your child will join.
  • Visit the admissions page of each school for current age criteria, forms and dates, and note that these differ from one school to another.
  • Ask for the current fee structure in writing from the school; we do not quote fees here.
  • Check the daily commute, especially for the schools on the edges of the city such as Nande, Wagholi and Mohammadwadi, before falling for a name.
  • Visit the campus, meet the teachers and ask to see the board affiliation certificate if you want to be certain.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a ranking of the best schools in Pune?

No. It is a hand-picked selection of schools whose board affiliation and basic details we could verify, listed by founding year. A school that is not listed here is not necessarily weaker; it may simply be one we could not verify in this round.

Which board is best for my child?

There is no single best board. ICSE/ISC, CBSE, State Board and IB suit different families, so choose by your child’s needs, your likely future moves and the subject options offered in Classes 11-12.

How can I check that a school is really affiliated?

Look the school up in the board’s own register: the CISCE school locator for ICSE/ISC schools, or the CBSE SARAS affiliated-schools directory for CBSE schools. Match the school name, area and affiliation number with what the school shows on its website.

Does this list include State Board or IB schools?

Not at present. We could not verify any State Board or IB schools in Pune against two sources, so we did not list them rather than guess.

Why are there no fee figures?

Fees change every year and differ by class and campus. We only mention figures if they are published on the school’s official site, and for this list we leave them out. Please ask each school for its current fee structure.

About this list

Board affiliation was read from the CISCE school locator (ICSE/ISC) and the CBSE SARAS affiliated-schools directory (CBSE) and compared with each school’s official website. Facts that appeared on only one source were left out. Everything here was last checked on 19 Oct 2026; schools update their pages and boards update their registers, so please verify the details that matter to you before applying.
