Best schools in Mumbai

Last checked: 15 Oct 2026. This is a short, hand-picked list of six well-established Mumbai schools, selected from a much larger pool. It is not a ranking, and the order does not reflect merit. We listed them by the year each school says it was founded.

For every school below we compared two things: the affiliation shown in the board’s own public locator, and what the school says about itself on its official website. Where we could not confirm something, we say “see site” instead of guessing. Fees, seat availability and admission rules change every year, so please confirm them directly with each school.

The six schools at a glance

1. The Cathedral and John Connon School (Fort)

The school’s website traces its roots to 1860, when a grammar school was opened inside the walled city of Bombay by Bishop Harding and the Cathedral Chaplain. The CISCE school locator lists it as a co-ed day school in Fort offering ICSE and ISC. Official website.

2. J.B. Petit High School for Girls (Fort)

A girls’ school that describes itself as founded in 1914 and based in Fort. The CISCE locator shows it as a girls’ day school with ICSE affiliation. Official website.

3. Campion School

A boys’ school started on 20 January 1943 by Jesuits, with Fr. Joseph Savall S.J. as founder principal, according to the school’s About page. The CISCE locator lists ICSE; the school website also carries a separate IGCSE fee-payment link, but we could not check IGCSE affiliation in an official register, so treat that as the school’s own statement. Official website.

4. Maneckji Cooper Education Trust School (Juhu)

The school website says it was founded in 1959 and presents itself as a long-running ICSE school. The CISCE locator places it in Juhu with ICSE and ISC. Official website.

5. Lilavatibai Podar High School

A co-educational, English-medium, unaided school which, per its history page, was founded in 1987 by the late Shri Ganesh Narayan Podar, and belongs to the wider Anandilal Podar educational complex. The CISCE locator lists ICSE and ISC. The locator gives only a PIN code (400 054) for the location, so check the site for the exact address. Official website.

6. Dhirubhai Ambani International School (Bandra East)

The school website says it has operated since 2003 and prepares students for ICSE and IGCSE, with the IB Diploma Programme in Classes 11 and 12. The CISCE locator confirms ICSE affiliation and a Bandra (East) location. The IGCSE and IB Diploma statements come from the school’s own site only; we could not open the IB Organization’s public directory to cross-check them. Official website.

How to shortlist for your child

  • Start with the board your family prefers, then check that the school offers it for the classes you need.
  • Visit the school’s admissions page for current age criteria, forms and dates.
  • Ask for the current fee structure in writing from the school; we do not quote fees here.
  • Check the daily commute before falling for a name.

About this list

Board affiliation was read from the CISCE school locator (locate.cisce.org). Founding years, boards beyond ICSE/ISC and descriptions come from each school’s official website. This list covers only a handful of Mumbai schools and leaves out many excellent ones, including CBSE schools, which we could not verify against the official CBSE register at the time of checking.
