Parents in Kolkata who want a CBSE curriculum have a wider choice than many expect, from long-established city schools to Salt Lake institutions and a central-government Kendriya Vidyalaya. This guide brings together nine schools selected from CBSE’s own affiliation records (SARAS) and then cross-checked against each school’s official website. It is a selection, not a ranking: the order is not an order of merit, and we have not copied ratings or fee tables from any other site.
Last checked: 13 Oct 2026. The order below is not an order of merit. This is a selection, not a ranking.

Selected CBSE schools in Kolkata: what each official source says
Apeejay School, Park Street
Apeejay School sits at 115 Park Street and, according to the Apeejay group’s own overview page, was its first branch, set up in 1975. The group’s website describes its schools as affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education, and CBSE’s SARAS list carries the school under affiliation number 2430019. Families looking at it should read the group’s pages on its Park Street campus to see how it positions itself.
Admission note: The site has an online application route (an “Apply Online” link on the home page). Check class-wise eligibility there.
Birla High School
Birla High School is a boys’ school on Moira Street. Its website header states CBSE affiliation with affiliation number 2430001, which matches the SARAS record. The admissions menu on the site lists entry points from Playgroup and Nursery through LKG-UKG and Class I onwards, with a separate Class XI page. The site also publishes a mandatory disclosure page, which is the best place to read the formal details.
Admission note: Admission pages are published under the site’s Admissions menu. We did not find a founding year on the pages we could read, so we have left it out.
BhavanтАЩs Gangabux Kanoria Vidyamandir
This Salt Lake school describes itself as an English-medium, co-educational school and belongs to the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan family; its history page traces that movement to K. M. Munshi and 1938. SARAS lists it under affiliation number 2430020. One honest caveat: the pages we opened on the school’s own site did not state the board in so many words, so treat the school’s mandatory public disclosure page as the document to confirm.
Admission note: The site carries a notice section and a mandatory disclosure link; read these for current admission information.
Delhi Public School, Ruby Park
DPS Ruby Park is the Kolkata campus of the Delhi Public School family and, as its website says, was founded in 2003 and is CBSE-affiliated (SARAS affiliation number 2430093). The site describes a junior school covering Nursery to UKG and a high school covering Class I to XII. It is a co-educational school on the south side of the city.
Admission note: When we checked, the home page banner referred to admissions for the 2027-28 session (Nursery to XI). Confirm class-wise availability on the site.
Gokhale Memorial GirlsтАЩ School
Gokhale Memorial Girls’ School calls itself a leading English-medium girls’ school of Kolkata and states CBSE affiliation code 2430163 on its site, matching SARAS. For families who specifically want a girls’ school following CBSE, it is one of the few options in this list. The school publishes a CBSE disclosure page.
Admission note: The site’s admissions section mentioned a KG-I admission list for the 2027-28 session when we checked.
Haryana Vidya Mandir
The school’s own history page says its foundation stone was laid by former chief minister Jyoti Basu and that it started functioning in 1992 with 538 students. It describes itself as an English-medium, private, unaided co-educational school affiliated to CBSE; the first Class X batch appeared in 1996 and the first Class XII (AISSCE) batch in 1998. SARAS lists it under affiliation number 2430046 (spelled “Haryana” there, “Hariyana” on the school’s own site).
Admission note: The site has an Admission section and a Notice Board; check them for the current session.
Lakshmipat Singhania Academy
Lakshmipat Singhania Academy is on Alipore Road. Its mandatory public disclosure page lists affiliation number 2430057, the same number SARAS shows. The site title describes it as a CBSE school in Kolkata. A founding year was not stated on the pages we could read, so we have not given one.
Admission note: When we checked, the home page listed online registration for session 2027-28 from 4 to 29 October 2026 for classes 2, 3, 6, 7 and 9, plus provisional Class XI registration, with an interaction and test on 31 October 2026. Dates may change, so verify on the site.
Mahadevi Birla World Academy
Mahadevi Birla World Academy says on its About page that it was established in 1959 by industrialist B. K. Birla in the name of his wife, Sarala Birla. It describes itself as a co-educational school and lists a junior section (Nursery to IV), middle section (V to VIII), a senior section (IX to X) and senior secondary (XI to XII). SARAS lists it under affiliation number 2430003.
Admission note: A news ticker on the home page mentioned Class XI admission when we checked; read the current notice on the Admissions page.
PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya, Fort William
This is a Kendriya Vidyalaya, a central-government school run by the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan. Its website lists CBSE Affiliation No. 2400001 and a KV code of 1269, matching SARAS. It is the option on this list that follows the KV system rather than a trust or private management, so its admission process is set centrally, not by the school alone.
Admission note: Read the admission notices on the school’s KVS page; the process is run through the Sangathan’s own system.
How to choose a CBSE school in Kolkata
Board fit. CBSE suits families who may move between cities, who are preparing for national entrance exams, or who simply prefer its syllabus pattern. If you are comparing boards, read our ICSE schools guide alongside this one.
Distance and commute. Kolkata traffic matters more than the map distance. Test the actual morning route, and ask the school about bus routes before you decide.
Campus and facilities. Visit if you can. Look at classrooms, play areas, labs and libraries, and ask what is included in the annual calendar.
Admission timing. Many schools open registration months before the session begins (several of the schools above were already showing 2027-28 notices on 13 Oct 2026). Dates differ every year.
Admission process basics
Most schools publish an online enquiry or registration form, followed by an interaction or assessment depending on the class. Documents usually include age proof and previous records, and Class XI admissions may depend on Class X results. Because dates, age cut-offs and seat availability change every session, treat the schools’ own admission pages as the final word.
Frequently asked questions
How did you select these CBSE schools?
We started from CBSE’s SARAS affiliation records, then checked each school’s own official website. A school only appears here if both sources agree it is a CBSE school. This is a selection, not a ranking.
Is this list a ranking of the best CBSE schools in Kolkata?
No. The order is not an order of merit, and we do not use other websites’ ratings. “Best” in the title reflects schools chosen for established presence and verifiable affiliation.
Are fees included?
No. We only publish fee numbers when they appear on a school’s official site with a clear date, so please check the school’s own fee notice.
When should I apply for admission?
Registration often opens many months before the session starts, but timelines vary by school and class. Check the official admission page and notices.
How can I confirm a school’s CBSE affiliation myself?
Search the school’s name or affiliation number in CBSE’s SARAS directory (saras.cbse.gov.in) and compare it with the disclosure on the school’s website.
