Barrackpore, on the northern edge of Kolkata, has a mix of schools that is a little different from the rest of the city. Alongside long-running private and trust-run schools, the cantonment and air force station bring Army, Air Force and Kendriya Vidyalaya campuses into the picture. If you are a parent in Barrackpore or the nearby belt along the Kalyani Expressway, that variety is useful, but it also makes comparison harder.
This guide is a short, honest shortlist rather than a ranking. We started from the official CBSE directory (SARAS), checked each school against its own website, and kept only the ones we could confirm. Seven schools made the cut for 2026, and the order below is not an order of merit. Where we could not confirm a detail, we say so and point you to the school’s own site.
Schools at a glance
Selected from schools we could confirm on an official board record and on the school’s own website. Listed in no particular order. “See site” means we could not confirm the detail on an official page.

School-by-school notes
Army Public School, Barrackpore
Army Public School sits inside the Barrackpore cantonment area and appears in the CBSE directory as a senior secondary school. Its website publishes the CBSE mandatory public disclosure, a curriculum section, house system details and a separate admissions page. The school’s own pages mention admission sessions starting from Balvatika (pre-primary) and board result listings for Class XII, so it covers the early years through senior secondary.
Admission note: The school states that children of serving Army personnel get priority, and that civilian children are limited to 10% of the strength in a class, subject to infrastructure. Read the Admission Rules page before applying, especially if you are a civilian family.
PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya Barrackpore (AFS)
This Kendriya Vidyalaya is on the Air Force Station campus and carries the PM SHRI tag on its official page. The school says it was set up in 1964 mainly to serve the children of Indian Air Force personnel, and the KVS mission statement covers transferable Central Government employees, including defence and para-military staff. Its CBSE affiliation number on its own site matches the CBSE directory entry, and it is listed at senior secondary level.
Admission note: KV admissions follow the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan rules and priority categories, which change by year. The school has an Admission Details page with the documents available; use that, not hearsay.
Air Force School, Barrackpore
The school says it came into existence in 1970 and has been CBSE-affiliated since 1 April 1993, at first up to Class X. It is run by the Air Force Educational and Cultural Society, registered under the Societies Registration Act. The CBSE directory now lists it at senior secondary level.
Admission note: Eligibility and priority categories for admission are set by the school; confirm directly with the school office whether and how civilian applicants are considered.
Bholananda National Vidyalaya
Bholananda National Vidyalaya is on Barrack Road in the heart of Barrackpore and is run under the Sree Guru Bholananda Ashram. The school’s own pages describe its aim as the all-round development of pupils, in physical, mental, intellectual, cultural and spiritual terms. It appears in the CBSE directory at senior secondary level.
Admission note: The website has an Apply Now link and contact numbers. Phone ahead, since the school lists specific office hours.
DAV Public School, Barrackpore
DAV Public School is on the Kalyani Expressway side of the Barrackpore area, with a Patulia postal address. The school’s website states the same CBSE affiliation number as the CBSE directory, where it is listed at senior secondary level. Because the campus is a little outside central Barrackpore, check your commute along the Expressway before shortlisting it.
Admission note: Contact details are on the school site. Ask the office for the current admission schedule and the classes with open seats.
St. Augustine’s Day School, Barrackpore
This is the one ICSE/ISC option on our list. The school’s overview page says the Augustine Education Society was established in 1970, that the Barrackpore school began in 1985, and that it runs from Playgroup to Class XII under the ICSE and ISC boards. Note that the same school group has other campuses, including a girls’ campus at Sewli on the Kalyani Expressway that appears in the CBSE directory at secondary level, so be sure you are looking at the right campus.
Admission note: Check the Admissions section of the school site for the campus, class and date you want. The CISCE school locator lists St. Augustine’s Day School at Shyamnagar, North 24 Parganas, as a co-educational day school for ICSE and ISC, which matches the school’s own page.
Mount Litera Zee School, Barrackpore
Mount Litera Zee School is part of a national school network, and the Barrackpore campus is listed in the CBSE directory at secondary level, on Nilgunj Road. We could not load the campus website while preparing this guide, so we are not describing its facilities or grades. Treat this entry as one to verify yourself on the official site.
Admission note: Confirm the classes offered and whether the school currently goes up to Class XII, since the CBSE directory lists secondary level only.
How to choose a school
- Board fit: Six of these schools are CBSE and one is ICSE/ISC. If you may move cities, CBSE tends to be easier to continue, especially with defence and central government transfers. If you prefer the ICSE style of syllabus, St. Augustine’s is the option here.
- Who the school is meant for: The Army, Air Force and KV schools prioritise service families. Read the admission rules first to avoid wasted effort.
- Distance and commute: Barrackpore traffic and the Kalyani Expressway can slow down daily travel. Do a trial run at school start time.
- Highest class offered: Some listings are secondary only. If you want a single school up to Class XII, confirm that.
- Campus visit: Visit, ask to see classrooms, labs and playgrounds, and talk to current parents.
Admission process basics
Admission dates, forms and age cut-offs change every year, and several of these schools publish them only on their own websites or as PDFs. Start looking in the months before the new session, and check the school’s admission page, not a third-party listing.
Typically you will need the child’s birth certificate, previous school records for later classes, address proof and photographs, but the exact list is the school’s call. For Army, Air Force and KV schools, expect extra documents tied to service category.
